The McBee Lion’s Club has taken over responsibility for operating the McBee Area Food Bank. After a unanimous vote to take over this project, the members immediately began the arduous task of assigning responsibilities and developing a plan to raise operating funds.

Club members agree that for several years they have been searching for that one special project where they can make a real difference in the McBee community. They feel that this project comes from the heart and exemplifies what a community service organization should be all about.

The McBee Area Food Bank will be operated by the McBee Lion’s Club, under the auspices of the Harvest Hope Food Bank. The core function of Harvest Hope is to distribute food and related products, both donated and purchased, at a discounted price to more than 350 member agencies and organizations serving the abused, poor, disabled, elderly and young in both an individual and family capacity. These agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, group homes, shelters, churches, and other non-profit organizations.

Food will be distributed to qualified McBee area residents on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at the old police station next to the Town Hall. Hours of distribution are from 3 PM to 6 PM.  Anyone interested in making monetary donations to the cause can do so by mailing a check to McBee Lions Club Food Bank Project, P. O. Box 95, McBee, SC 29101.
